Intangible Past
Let Go: Stephanie Felton, Grade 9
Simply Life"
Life goes fast,
too fast for some.
One day here,
the next...
Gone.
While the days fly by
full of promise,
yet...Broken...
past dreams long forgotten.
Our real story now unfolds.
The time has come.
To open our hearts
mend our wings,
let true dreams take flight.
---Kristy Hanshaw, Grade 11
“Essence”
Peace, tranquility, and pure natural ability
Is what lies in the soul
Of nature’s stability
Though we may be tough and rugged at times
It is inevitable
That nature offers peace of mind
We are told that we must obey a god, and God only
And have no choice
But to be honest, when I pray, I never hear God’s voice
Maybe I’m a rebel; maybe I’m crazy
My views of society
Insist no deity
Science, math, or any other structure
Developed by man
Cannot replace earth’s personal juncture
And the sacrifices we make to please God or mankind
Are at time wasteful
Because we don’t realize what we’re leaving behind
Traditional, old fashioned, or faith lacking
My escape
Is one of a habitual place mapping
Take my word that nature heals
Because you may see
The hand it deals
And when all else fails make sure to return
To someplace of peace and practical terms
---Tre Cantu, Grade 12
“Without Rest”
Three slave men
Digging an unforgiving grave
Crying out to their king for their long waited rest
Their pleas were denied
Digging an unforgiving well
Sweating in the blistering heat of the summer
Crying out to their king for their long waited rest
Death was upon them
Sweating in the blistering of the summer
The bone dry well was infinitely empty
Death was upon them
Without rest, they perished
