“I’m Alive”
Breathing in air
Inhaling
Smelling the flowers
Feeling the wind
I’m alive
Listening to the waves
Yelling out loud
Smiling at the sun
Dancing in the rain
Stealing it away
---Jessica Woody,
Grade 10
“Live Your Life”
Love is life
Life is love
You are a single dove
With wings so white
They can’t be missed
Live your life, full of bliss
Live your life, full of wonder
No matter how much
Your life goes under
Live your life, full of hope
Never miss a single note
Live your life, full of love
As if you are
A single dove
---Jessica Woody, Grade 10
“The Choice”
Opportunity knocked on my door.
He told me to live my dreams now,
while I still had the chance.
Forsaken, begged that I not turn out like him.
He was a bitter man-
A man who had ignored his numerous opportunities.
Forsaken, had no purpose in his life.
He had died slowly and painfully on the inside, long before
his body on the out.
I now walk another road,
different from its predecessor.
A road that leads to my dreams,
and in reality be at peace.
Peace with myself.
I have embraced my dreams,
making them a reality.
---Jeff Merchant, Grade 11
“Eyes of a Wise Man”
To see into the eyes of a wise man,
you must achieve beyond your beliefs
and let your dreams expand.
To unlock the greatest of life,
you must be willing to hold
tight through these cold nights.
As we all see our lives from the past,
when we get there, we say at last
we have changed our memories with
our families by our side,
so we try to make the most of it
because time is growing short,
like an hour glass sand,
but we still travel a long journey
into the eyes of a wise man.
--Troy Stanford, Grade 12
“Life”
Life is a matter of not what you say,
but the actions you show throughout a day,
thus to stop the theoretical judgment day,
then stop the nonsense of acting like a child,
when you’re clearly an adult,
but your personality is defined by the thoughts
you have locked down in your mind’s vault.
And for you to try to throw all this greatness away,
because you can’t handle the ups and downs through the day,
is just a shame.
This is meant to be taken seriously,
but you treat is as a game.
You don’t like the rules,
but without them,
your generation probably wouldn’t be here today.
